Smoove : Biog : Hailing from Newcastle, Smoove has confirmed himself as a shooting star of today’s freestyle beats scene. A genre hopping musical nomad, Smoove can’t help but take the very best funk, soul, hip hop, breakbeats, bits and bobs and fuse them into one devastatingly dance worthy organic union. The last few years have been an exciting time for Smoove. Since the release of his debut album “Dead Men’s Shirts” on Acid Jazz Records in 2005, Smoove has found himself in demand all over UK and Europe. From Berlin to Budapest, Paris to Prague, Smoove’s funk filled, break beating, hip hop sound has proved too much to resist for those in the know. Early warning signs came after the stellar success of his debut single for Acid Jazz, ‘Coming Back/The Revolution will be televised’ reached number 4 in the UK’s official ‘Beats &Breaks Charts’ as well as spending five weeks in the German Dance Charts. The follow up album proved him to have far more than just one trick and confirmed Smoove as a producer of exceptional quality. Recent productions have furthered his reputation and continued to spread the word about his unmistakable ‘Smoove’ sound. The biggest and baddest cats of today’s underground funk and hip hop scenes have enlisted Smoove’s remix services with the likes of Malente, Dynamo Productions (Andy Smith & Boca 45), The Ju Ju Orchestra, Frequento, Bucky Leo Quintet, Torpedo Boyz, K Bonus, Andy Lewis, and The New Master Sounds all receiving musical make overs. In the summer 2007 Acid Jazz released his second album ‘Gravy’ Remixes & Rarities which featured the international club smash “Im A Man”, finding itself taking up permanent residency in the record boxes of some of the best DJs in the land. Everyone from DJ Food to Andy Smith has rocked it as well as radio jocks like Craig Charles and his BBC6 Radio Funk & Soul Show finding it’s floor filling charms just too much to resist. Since launching his own ‘Wack Records’ mash up label in 2006, Smoove has remained on the path to success and continued to bother the dance charts both at home and abroad. Smoove’s flawless DJ sets and sporadic live shows have taken him round the globe and back. Whether it’s performing alongside DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist at The Sage in Gateshead or dropping beats like bombs to a crowd 60,000 strong at Berlin’s Fusion Festival, there’s no stage too big and journey too far. Acid Jazz Records founder and DJ legend Eddie Piller simply calls Smoove one of the best DJs he ever heard. Don’t believe him or us?
